Isis, Nephthys, and the Greco-Roman world. Horus and Osiris, being central figures in her story, spread along with her. The Greek and Roman cult of Isis developed a series of initiation rites dedicated to Isis and Osiris, based on earlier Greco-Roman mystery rites but colored by Egyptian afterlife beliefs.
Isis, Osiris and Horus. She placed the body in the temple and transformed herself into a kite (a small bird) and flew over the body singing a song of mourning. She then used her prodigious magical talent to conceive Heru-sa-aset (Horus, son of Isis), whose destiny was to avenge his father and defeat Set.
Osiris was able to descend into the underworld, where he became the lord of that domain. The child born to Isis was named Horus, the hawk-god. When he became an adult, Horus decided to make a case before the court of gods that he, not Set, was the rightful king of Egypt.
The Story of Isis and Osiris. Seth opened his mighty jaws to destroy Horus and his followers when the storm should wreck their boats. But Horus cast his harpoon, and it struck deep into the head of the red hippopotamus, deep into his brain. And that one blow slew Seth the great wicked one,
> Isis, Osiris, Horus. Isis, Osiris, Horus The legend makes Osiris and Isis some sovereigns benefactors. Osiris taught humans the rudiments of agriculture and fishing, while Isis taught them weaving and medicine. “Meanwhile, Seth was reigning over the desert and hostile countries. Jealous of his brother, he planned his assassination.
Isis was able to revive Osiris sufficiently that she was able to conceive a son, the god Horus. After engendering the son who would eventually avenge his death, Osiris departed his earthly domain and entered the underworld—where thereafter, he ruled as king of the dead.
Isis and Horus meet Mary and Jesus. In the first, Horus is clearly the son of Isis, born of her flesh. In the second, the woman could be anyone taking care of any child. It might not even be hers. One is clearly Mother. Isis has agency – the ability to give life and nourishment and enact her will.
The Osiris Myth
Horus was the child of Osiris and Isis and the brother of Seth. He avenged his father’s murder by killing Seth or, alternatively, in his struggle against Seth for the succession of Osiris he was judged by the gods to be in the right and was declared ruler of Egypt.
