I have 3 large (8″) piranhas. I keep them in a 49 gallon tank with an external filter with a capacity 1 and half times the size of the tank, this helps to keep toxic levels down. I have found a weekly water change of 20% keeps the nitrate levels at bay due to the fresh fish diet.
